Summary 0001488: speedfan.sys corrupt or missing causes windows to "fail to start"
Description installed 4.39 and then the 4.40 beta. Immediately saw a bsod. Restarted to a "windows failed to start" error repair screen. Safe mode, last known good, and recovery modes all crash when loading speedfan.sys. Help!!

The latest beta is simply an exe replacement. This means that it doesn't change a thing in speedfan.sys installation.
My suggestion is to reinstall SpeedFan 4.39.

no way into windows.... Probably going to require a reformat. Speedfan.sys should not be loading itself in safe mode.

If the file is missing you can replace it from another installation.
What you are experiencing cannot be caused by SpeedFan directly. Something else must have been happened. Replacing an exe cannot cause that.

I get that.... My point is that speedfan.sys should not be considered a core driver. It should not be loaded as part of safe mode to prevent this from happening to anyone else. Right?

This is the first time that I read this. My suggestion is to manually replace the current speedfan.sys.
